The village of Ashane in Karjat is located about 85kms from Mumbai and 100 kms from Pune. There is also a railway station on the Central Line at Bhivpuri Road Station. The place is accessible by road through Expressway via Shedung exit. It takes about 2 hours to reach Bhivpuri.
There is a beautiful waterfall called Ashane Waterfall. The water falls from a height of about 80 feet in a two tier drop.
The waterfall is surrounded by hills, forest, Bhivpuri Dam and Tata Power Plant nearby.
We started from Mumbai for Karjat on 2nd August, 2026 at 11.00am and reached Bhivpuri at 1.30pm after a brief halt of 30 minutes in between. There is a kutcha road leading through Bhivpuri village to the waterfall and ends just before the fall.
On the day we visited it was raining heavily and we could see the force of water flowing down from the waterfall. Initially, the water was clear but as the rain continued, the water became muddy.
The walk to the waterfall is quite rocky. We could see a number of people, children, youngsters, seniors sitting in the water flowing down from the fall.
There is a pond where the water directly falls from the waterfall with force. It was difficult to stand below the fall because of the force of water. But a large number of people entered the water and enjoyed the fall. Intermittently, it rained which made it more enjoyable.
Just before the waterfall, there is a scenic trek through the hills which leads to the top of the waterfall. This is a popular trekking ground for trekkers from Mumbai and Pune.
There are small food stalls near the fall selling Vada Pav, Butta and tea. Some of them provide fruits like raw mango and vegetable like Cucumber.
Tips:
As the trail is quite rocky, it is preferable to use good quality footwear. During rainy season the trail is slippery.
When visiting the waterfall, carry changeover clothes to enjoy the water. If you are in a group, the entertainment is much more. Also carry plastic or waterproof bag to cover your phone.
We enjoyed for full two hours in the water and by the time we came down, we were quite hungry. We ate hot vada pav to sustain us till lunch.
There is a resort “Bhivpuri Farm” near the waterfall. During monsoon it is a good experience to stay in nature close to the waterfall and the trek area. The tariff on the day we reached there was around Rs.2200/- per person.
Other places to see around:
1. Bhivpuri Dam : It is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from Bhivpuri station near the waterfall.
2. Tata Power Hydroelectric Plant: This is right alongside the Bhivpuri Dam.
3. Between Karjat and Bhivpuri there are other waterfalls, forts and trekking trails.
